"Reckon?"

It means "I think..." or "I believe...."  It's a perspective, a viewpoint,
an agreement. A sharing of what you know. Our approach to communications is all of the above. Collaborative, informative, down-to-earth, entertaining. And we tell stories, whether corporate
or personal, in the language people understand -- their own voices.

New locations are being scouted for "The Village Healer," a 55 minute digital video documentary exploring the traditional knowledge of the uses of plants (TKUP) by indigenous cultures.

 

In the annals of Western colonization, there’s a long history of acquiring knowledge from native cultures on the healing properties of local plants and animals. Even now, the greatest hope for new cures may lie with the medicine men and shaman still practicing healing arts among the world’s remaining indigenous tribes.

But there’s also a darker story to the West’s continued exploitation of this knowledge—with recognition or compensation rarely paid to traditional healers or greater tribes who shared their ancient wisdom. So how do we approach this scenario—this exchange—ethically in today's world?  Do we?  Or are accusations of biopiracy accurate, in a world where no uniform way exists for indigenous peoples to assert intellectual property rights?  More...
